Personal Optional Protection (POP) is an optional insurance coverage available to employers and independent operators without workers, who are not automatically covered for compensation purposes under the Workers Compensation Act.
For eligible proprietors and partners, your POP coverage, once accepted, will pay health care, wage-loss, and rehabilitation benefits if you have work-related injury or occupational disease.
The cost of your POP coverage depends on the monthly amount of coverage you choose and your premium rate. Your premium rate is based on the nature of your business and the industry you operate in.
If you operate as a proprietor or a partner, you do not employ workers, and do not wish to cover yourself for workers’ compensation, you cannot register with WorkSafeBC, as there would be no one to insure under your account.
